Kuzuha Spends More Than Four Hours on Overwatch Team Practice Ahead of Scrims
The Nijisanji streamer and his teammates worked through maps, hero picks and callouts until a server outage and fatigue set in late in the 281-minute stream.
NIJISANJI — Kuzuha of Nijisanji broadcast a 281-minute Overwatch team practice, a session of drills and review games ahead of upcoming scrims, or practice matches against other teams. The stream opened with the group trying to fill the lobby and a call to go all out: “Let’s really win this.”
Most of the time went to individual maps. The team played through Ilios, King’s Row and Route 66, plus a Flashpoint map, a five-point mode, that several members were seeing for the first time. A more experienced player on the call stopped to explain each map by replay, laying out how the main group and the two flank players should split up, which high ground to take first and where enemies usually appear. Kuzuha spent most of the night on the hero Sion and talked through whether to switch to other heroes against specific enemy picks.
Communication was the recurring theme of the feedback. Players were asked to call out how many people were on each side so the team could decide whether to push or fall back, to announce when they planned to use their ultimate abilities, and to pull back when the enemy’s ultimates arrived instead of fighting through them. Early in the session, chat noted that the team’s calls were landing, and the busiest stretch of chat came around the seven-minute mark as a run of well-timed plays drew a flood of “nice” messages.
The practice was interrupted shortly before the two-hour mark when the game’s servers dropped the players and sent them into a queue of more than 20. The group regrouped and rebuilt the custom lobby within about eight minutes.
By the fourth hour, players said fatigue was showing. The group chose King’s Row for the last match and lost it, but teammates said the team had grown noticeably stronger over the night and could be competitive in the coming days. They agreed to meet again as schedules allow, and the conversation turned to keeping up Overwatch alongside League of Legends. Kuzuha closed the stream by thanking viewers. Four paid messages came in during the broadcast.
