Machita Chima Sings Through Viewers’ “Trauma Songs” in a 77-Minute Set
The Nijisanji streamer built the setlist from songs fans had named on X, and said about half of them were new to her.
NIJISANJI — Machita Chima of Nijisanji’s 08Ex-SEEDs sang a setlist of “trauma songs” chosen by viewers on Tuesday, working through 13 tracks in a stream that ran about 77 minutes. She had asked fans on X which songs scarred them, then ordered the replies into a set.
The stream opened with a recording of a school fitness shuttle-run test rather than a song, which she said she had made herself beforehand. The first sung track was the opening theme of an anime she has not yet watched, a song she said she learned because it is requested so often. She then moved through fan picks that ranged from songs that unsettled listeners on tone alone to ones tied to disturbing scenes in anime and games.
“We’ve sung all this and it’s only 46 minutes in. Songs from that kind of children’s program are short, so you get to sing a lot. Good value.” — Machita Chima, after the tenth song
Several of the older picks came from NHK children’s programming, which she said she knew little about. One song she had filed as coming from the program Minna no Uta turned out to belong to a different NHK show, and she apologized. Viewers’ memories of frightening music videos from childhood filled the chat during that stretch. She also sang an anime insert song from School Days, a work she said she likes, and a newer track she said many fans of a rhythm game had called traumatic for its staging.
Partway through she said about half the songs were ones she was singing for the first time. For one anime song she sang only the first verse, saying she had not had time to learn the whole piece. She also showed an image of the songs fans had requested most, and said she skipped some of them out of consideration for the staff in the room.
She closed with a deliberately upbeat song, saying she wanted to end a dark set on a high note, and noted that the original is brighter than the version some viewers remembered. Chat responded with blue penlight emotes and applause through the finale, and the stream drew 21 Super Chats and Stickers.
