Mizumiya Su Starts Over in ARK With Nothing and Ends the Night With Five Tamed Creatures
With help from Pekora, Choco and Noel, the ARK newcomer enlarged a house, learned to warp and tamed a Pteranodon.
HOLOLIVE — Mizumiya Su of Hololive’s FLOW GLOW opened an ARK stream on Friday night to find the base walls gone, the inventory empty and every dinosaur raised there missing, then rebuilt from scratch over a broadcast of nearly six hours. At the close, Su counted five newly tamed creatures, a larger house and a first flyer, with Pekora, Choco and Noel lending a hand along the way.
Within the first minute Su was taking stock of the damage: no walls, no clothes, nothing in the pack and no tamed animals. “These things happen. It can’t be helped,” Su said, and got to work on basic tools, wood and stone. About half an hour in, Su went after a pale-blue dinosaur with a wooden club, begging it to pass out (Su said the point was not to hurt it) and chasing it down each time it wandered off, until it dropped and could be fed vegetables and tamed. Chat answered with a run of “nice Su” puns.
“If you don’t know, you don’t get hurt by the fact that you lost everything.” — Mizumiya Su, after finding the base wiped
Soon after, a cat began following Su around. Told that a good whack would tame it, Su was about to swing when the cat spoke. It was Pekora, who joked that ARK lets players turn into cats; Su, who had not switched on in-game voice, had been talking to the cat for minutes without an answer. Pekora then handed over the 80 hides Su had asked for to make saddles, along with a spyglass, and offered to take Su to the busier middle of the map. Su called it a first meeting with someone from “the city”, having been told this corner of the map was countryside.
Much of the next hour went to a house. Su worked through foundations, walls and ceilings by trial and error, looked up the name of a gate big enough for dinosaurs, and added windows after finding the inside too dark. By about an hour and 46 minutes in, Su declared the result roomy enough to pass for an apartment building. A Moschops, a good fiber gatherer, joined the herd a little after the two-hour mark, and a trip to high ground ended with Su killed and running back for the dropped gear.
Around two and a half hours in, Choco, who had been watching, began sending tips, including console commands that cleared the fog and made the game run lighter, and Su thanked Choco repeatedly. Later Choco came on voice, showed how to mark waypoints on the map, brought Su to Choco’s base through dug warp holes, helped unlock a crafting bench and talked Su through taming a rabbit with carrots. “Because of Choco, my world has opened up,” Su said. Near the four-hour mark, Su shot down and tamed a Pteranodon, feeding it narcotic berries to keep it under while Noel stayed on hand to help; Su thanked Noel when the taming finished.
Su closed by reading Super Chats and thanking viewers. Although the earlier animals were all gone, Su said, five had joined the new base in a single night. Su pointed viewers on to Noel’s stream and said the next broadcast would be at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
