Amakomo Linon Beats the Original Mega Man on a First Playthrough in About Two Hours
The Specialite streamer had braced for a marathon of up to 12 hours, then used the time left to rematch the Yellow Devil boss with her starting weapon.
SPECIALITE — Amakomo Linon of Specialite cleared the original Mega Man in about two hours of play on Wednesday, finishing a game she said she had never played, well ahead of the marathon she had prepared for.
She opened the stream by saying she had decided on the spot to play it on a weekday, because she had outside work the next day and had even considered streaming in the morning instead. She said she was ready to go as long as 12 hours if the game demanded it. Her only prior knowledge of the series, she joked, was that Air Man is strong, and she was told he does not appear in this game. She learned the controls from the in-game button settings, then worked through the six robot-master stages largely by trial and error.
“Mega Man was fun.” — Amakomo Linon, right after the clear
The biggest surprise came during the second boss fight, when she realized she had picked up a new attack from the first boss and that each boss’s weapon could be switched to and used against the others. By the time the sixth boss fell, about 57 minutes after she started the game, she thought she had finished it. Then a scientist, Dr. Wily, appeared and the game kept going, and she pushed on through the final stages, switching weapons to match each boss and topping up her gauges with recovery items, and the credits came up at about 2:12 into the stream. “Mega Man was fun,” she said.
Afterward she went back to the Yellow Devil, a boss viewers had mentioned, and fought it again with her starting weapon, taking the win in a close finish. Viewers also told her about a pause trick that adds damage on that fight, which she said looked like an unintended way to clear it. Moving on to a chat segment, she read through congratulatory Super Chats and said she was glad to have learned about weaknesses, noting that the six stages could be taken in any order and that a different order would have saved her a retry on one stage.
She also announced that Specialite will hold a song relay on Oct. 31, Halloween, the first of its kind within the group. Her plans for the following day were not settled: she said she could not stream in the evening because of work and would consider a short daytime session.
