Oliver Evans Cuts Morning Chat Short on a Sore Throat, Rates Himself ‘Half Fleeting’
Asked whether he is the kind of person chat calls hakanai, or fleeting, the Nijisanji streamer said it depends on the day.
NIJISANJI — Oliver Evans of Nijisanji ended his weekday morning chat after about two hours, saying his throat was still not at full strength, and used part of the stream to answer a question that had run through chat: is he hakanai, the Japanese word for fleeting or ephemeral?
He opened the stream by saying his voice was not fully recovered after a heavy recording session the week before and another recording the day before. He said he had gone home planning to work, then fell asleep and slept through the night, which he said felt great, and which he gave as the reason the waiting room opened late. He said he planned to keep the stream short and to close at 9:30 a.m.
“The gap between my fleeting days and my not-fleeting days is huge.” — Oliver Evans, on how chat sees him
The first stretch was a *zatsudan*, or chat stream, built around a request for viewers to tell him what is trending. Squeeze toys were first on the list. He talked through the types viewers described, from clay and oil to water and slime, and said he doubted he could squeeze one properly because his hands were too big. Later stretches took in a live-action Street Fighter film, where he said he enjoyed it as a casual popcorn movie and singled out several characters’ portrayals, as well as Indian action films, a goat-themed animated basketball movie and Kamen Rider.
The hakanai question came up in the middle of the stream. He said he considers his health fleeting at the moment, and his equipment luck too, with a PC repair possibly coming the following week, but that he does not think his personality is. He put himself at about half and half. He also said his voice was lower than usual that morning, closer to how he talks with family, because he normally pitches it higher when meeting people.
Chat joined in, with viewers trading the word back and forth and joking that it was no hour for a loud voice. At the close, viewers told him to look after his throat. He said he would be back at 5 p.m. for a collaboration stream.
