Gigi Murin Takes a Four-Hour Deadlock Crash Course From Reya and Ends the Night on a Win

Gigi asked Reya for lessons, bound a “going to rat” ping to a key before the first match, and played through several games as Rem, the pillow-throwing hero.

Gigi Murin spent a stream of more than four hours learning the hero shooter Deadlock from Reya, who said she had been playing for about a week, and closed the session with a victory in the final match.

Gigi opened by saying she had asked Reya to teach her the game, and warned that any bad habits she picked up would be Reya’s doing. Before the first match, Reya had her open the settings and bind the “going to rat” quick ping to a key. The line, a nod to the new hero Rat King, became a running gag; the two repeated it for much of the night, and chat joined in.

“You should invest in women kissing.” — Reya, speaking to chat while Gigi was away from the stream

Reya explained the basics in League of Legends terms: lanes, towers, a base with shrines to break, and souls that must be picked up to pay for items. She also covered the parry, the heavy melee attack, the zipline, and how to copy other players’ item builds. Gigi tried Rat King in the opening match, then played Rem, a small, sleepy hero who throws pillows, using a “brick pillow” build, and called the character her favorite. She also tried Viper in one match and dropped her from her list afterward. While the queue for another match dragged on for about ten minutes, Reya taught her wall bounces, dash-jumps and other movement tricks.

Midway through the final match, Gigi stepped away for a snack and Reya spoke to chat directly, joking about Gigi’s taste in romance and urging viewers to back a hero in the game’s character vote. The match ended in a win, which Gigi said let them finish on a high note. A frame-rate problem for one player had interrupted play earlier and was fixed by restarting the game. The two closed by joking about a birthday stream for Reya, with a list of tasks that included playing 20 Rem matches in a day.

Ten paid messages came in during the stream, many of them tips on builds and the game’s lore.
