ChroNoiR Unveils Prepaid Card With Four Designs in Press-Conference Stream
The card, made with Mitsubishi UFJ Nicos’ new Ouen Plus Card app, has no printed number and can be issued as a physical card.
NIJISANJI — ChroNoiR announced a prepaid payment card bearing the duo’s designs on Tuesday, staging the reveal as an emergency press conference with a table of microphones and running jokes about photographers’ flashes. The ChroNoiR Card is a collaboration with Ouen Plus Card, a new service from Mitsubishi UFJ Nicos that was announced the day before. The duo described the card as one of the first collaboration items for the service.
The pair walked through the service’s five main points. It is a prepaid card managed entirely inside an app, so users can spend only what they have loaded. It is open to anyone 15 or older, has no enrollment or annual fee, works at Visa merchants in stores and online, and can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay for tap payments. Payments also earn the app’s own points, which can be exchanged for digital rewards such as phone wallpapers.
The ChroNoiR Card comes in four designs: a black-card-style logo design, a solo design for each member, and a design showing the two together. The solo cards use newly drawn bank-clerk-style illustrations, and the duo card uses a photo from an earlier collaboration with Mitsubishi UFJ Bank. The members joked about which of them would rank first or second in a bank’s sales figures, and about whether the two worked in different departments. The app lets users switch designs at will, and none of the cards prints a card number on its face; the number is shown inside the app.
Users can also order a physical card for a fee, but only one design is active at a time and the most recently issued card is the valid one. The duo suggested anyone ordering all four should save the design they want to use daily for last.
The second half turned to a tagline for the card. The members read slogans submitted by viewers in advance, then each picked a favorite by number and wrote it out by hand: “Meet us every time you use it” and “We’ll pay.” A question-and-answer segment drawn from viewer submissions followed, covering first purchases, spending limits and recent shopping mishaps. The stream closed with a recap of the card’s features and a pointer to the application details in the pinned chat comment and the stream description.
