Miona Sumeragi Closes Monthly Gundam Song Stream With First Performance of “Qualia”

RIOT MUSIC — Miona Sumeragi ended her monthly Gundam-themed singing stream on Sunday with the first public performance of “Qualia,” a song viewers had requested many times. She sang it in the original key, and afterward said it had been difficult enough that practice took a long time.

The stream was a regular *utawaku*, or singing stream, restricted to songs from the Gundam franchise. Sumeragi had promised in advance that a first-time song would be on the list, and told viewers she had practiced it while trembling with nerves. She opened with “Silent Voice,” sung with a chorus she added herself, and followed it with her own cover of “White Reflection.” She said she had chosen the rest of the set by a song’s mood and feel rather than by which series it came from. The set also included “DREAMS” and “10 YEARS AFTER.”

“I’m glad I could finally deliver it today.” — Miona Sumeragi, after singing “Qualia”

The final stretch was devoted to Mobile Suit Gundam 00. “Prototype” came first, then “Trust You,” and then “Qualia,” which she introduced by saying she was extremely nervous and had received a great many requests for it. Once it was over she called the last three songs a Gundam 00 set, and said she had been nervous.

Chat greeted the announcement of the debut with “first performance, here it comes,” and the stream drew 46 Super Chats and Stickers, which Sumeragi read out and thanked one by one after the final song. She said she wanted to build on her low register and keep widening her range in both directions.

Sumeragi said her next song stream was tentatively set for Tuesday at 10 p.m., with a 3D collaboration song stream planned for Friday. She said the week’s schedule would be confirmed the next day.
