Fujikura Uruka Plays Over a Dozen Viewer Requests in Nearly Five-Hour Violin Karaoke
She opened a request list about an hour in, then worked through game music, anime and rock themes despite sheet music that was sometimes hard to find.
PHASE CONNECT — Fujikura Uruka, a violin VTuber with Phase Connect, played more than a dozen viewer-requested songs on a violin karaoke stream that ran nearly five hours. The requests ranged from video game soundtracks and an anime theme to rock and pop songs and instrumental pieces. The stream drew 73 paid messages alongside more than 5,400 chat messages.
The stream got off to a late start. Uruka appeared about 11 minutes in, apologized for the delay and said she had things to take care of beforehand. She also struggled with a microphone shock mount that kept coming apart. Her voice sounded raspy, which she attributed to dry air on a flight the day before. She chatted with viewers, who call her a bear, for roughly the first hour before turning to the violin.
“This is why you will check the key signature before you start playing something.” — Fujikura Uruka, during one of the requests
At about 1:09 she opened a request list and asked for links to YouTube sheet music. She closed it a minute and a half later. Among the first pieces she played were “Mambo de Chocobo” from Final Fantasy V and “Red Swan,” the Attack on Titan theme, on an electric violin she said she was still getting used to. Later requests included “Unity” by The Fat Rat, a song she said she had not heard of before, “Battle of Wuhan” from the Hearts of Iron IV soundtrack, In Flames’ “Come Clarity” and Ludovico Einaudi’s “Experience.”
Finding playable scores was a recurring problem. She searched YouTube and MuseScore, called several arrangements rough, and said about eight measures were missing from the Hearts of Iron piece before she caught the next phrase. For one request, a song by keshi, she said she could not find good sheet music. She also said the strings on the violin needed changing.
The second half of the stream included Dire Straits’ “Walk of Life,” “Castle and Fortress” from Yoshi’s Island, which she said had many accidentals in its opening, Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” a piece from Halo 3: ODST and a Fire Emblem Awakening theme. She called “Autumn Leaves” the last song at about 3:49 and played a calm arrangement, after which the stream returned to chat for about another hour. Near the end she said she had not yet posted a schedule but planned to stream again within a day or so at her regular time.
