Reynard Blanc and Two Fellow Talents Reach Level 15 and Finish Bomb Game BOMBANANA
With one player muted, one deaf and one blind in every round, the trio defused their way to the final level in about two hours and 15 minutes.
REMEMORIES — Reynard Blanc and two fellow talents, Lili and Chloe, played through the co-op bomb-defusal game BOMBANANA! on Saturday and cleared its final level, level 15, about two hours and 15 minutes into the stream.
Each round the game randomly left one of the three unable to speak, one unable to hear and one unable to see, so the players had to relay what was on the bomb’s modules (wires, sliders, a calculator, piano notes, symbols, mazes and button sequences) with whatever signals they had left. Players who could not name a color picked up objects in the room to show it, among them a green bottle, a banana and a red stick of dynamite.
The stream opened with a long sound check as the group tried to bring Lili’s and Chloe’s microphones up to level. The first rounds went better than expected: in one, Reynard, who could not speak, nodded at random when Lili asked whether a wire was green, and it was. Midway through the stream the three agreed the early wins had been “full of luck.” A round at about 56 minutes ended with no mistakes, and one with 18 seconds left on the clock was saved at the last moment. Later the three swapped to their older character models, joking that it felt like playing in 2020. In a maze round, one participant worked out the route by reasoning about where the walls must be after guesses failed.
The final stretch turned on a module of colored buttons, which the group struggled with for a while before realizing a single stage could require several presses in order. They then cleared the last level. Afterward they said they would like to play again as a group of four, but that first they would have to find a shared schedule, and then a game. They thanked the audience before closing the stream.
