Hibiki Du Ca Watches Syakegohan Win a Second Straight SEGA Puyo Puyo Tournament
Syakegohan led the grand final 9-3, saw the runner-up win five straight games, then took the next one to close out the 93-player event.
NIJIGEN — Syakegohan won the Puyo Puyo Global Ranking Series (PGRS) 2026 SEGA Official Tournament 3 on Saturday, the second official SEGA event in a row that the player has taken. Hibiki Du Ca, who streams for NIJIGEN, watched the broadcast live with chat, and the stream ran nearly three hours.
The tournament was played on the Steam version of Puyo Puyo Champions. Ninety-three players entered, and the top two from each group advanced to a 32-player single-elimination bracket. Matches were first to five through round three and first to 10 from the semifinals on. First place earned 50 points toward the global rankings, second place 30, and the top four 15.
Syakegohan beat an opponent who had won the opening game of their round-three match, then won the second semifinal 10-6 against Punichan after trading early games. The first semifinal went the full distance, tied at 9-9 before a deciding game sent the winner to the final.
In the grand final Syakegohan led 9-3 and was one game from the title. The runner-up then took five straight games to close to 5-9, but Syakegohan won the next one. The runner-up earned 30 points, and the commentators said the result left Syakegohan far ahead in the standings.
The broadcast closed with the schedule: the next official tournament, SEGA Official Tournament 4, will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, the organizers correcting a slide that had said the 17th, and a third tournament hosted by Ascension is set for Dec. 19. The top two Japan-region players and the top player aged 15 or under in the global standings will be invited to the Puyo Puyo Grand Prix final in March.
