Irodori Irori of MAHA5 (Actors to Live!) pushed deep into the story of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (known as DQM3) in a stream of nearly five hours on Nov. 3. It was the fourth stream of the playthrough, and Irori closed it by saying the final battle looked to be getting close.

The stream opened with breeding. Irori had worked on the sub-party between streams and said the plan had slipped from memory, but recalled that a Killer Machine was meant to be one of the results. The story then moved to a race through an ice labyrinth, where monsters competed to bring back a prized rod and take the throne. Irori and the party finished the course and recruited the two monsters guarding the rod, only to learn that the village elder had staged the race to tire out his rivals so he could take the seat himself. “It was honestly a little sad,” Irori said.

Midway through, Irori tried a new way of scouting high-rank monsters and caught a Night Lich with little trouble. “This is really handy,” Irori said. Back in the story, a self-styled ally who spoke in dramatic phrases led the party to a hidden refuge and revealed he was the main character’s half-brother, then asked for help against a dragon that could cross dimensions. The party defeated it in a short fight, and Irori later joked that the team had been raised almost too strong for it.

The main story then turned to a cult working to revive Estark, the underworld emperor. Irori fought a dragon sent to stop the ritual, and Estark came back only to fall to a band of human heroes. A wrong-footed choice in the scenes that followed sent the story into a darker turn before time was rewound. Irori said the plot’s reversal did not sit right at first, but accepted the outcome once the story settled on the goal of becoming the next demon king.

With new demon realms now open, Irori spent the last hour fusing and training stronger monsters, including a Baz, and tested them in battle. At the close, Irori said that after nearly five hours the final battle seemed near and that the next stream should bring the game much closer to its end. A stream of another Final Fantasy game is planned for the next day.
