Eepy Sleepy Plays Doki Doki Literature Club in Memory of a Friend, With Chat Picking Poems
The Phase Connect streamer, who voiced a character in a collab of the game years ago, said she did not expect to finish it and stopped after about three hours with a sore throat.
PHASE CONNECT — Eepy Sleepy, a Phase Connect streamer with the 17Phase Invaders Quest group, spent a three-hour stream on the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club! and said she was playing it in memory of a friend who died 40 days earlier. She talked about him for a stretch before the game began, and played a short video he had once shared that she found funny.
She told viewers she wanted to do more this year and to be less held back by the urge to make everything perfect. She said her weekly interactive streams would likely become every other week after October, and that she had left the game off her Halloween schedule because of the reason she was playing it.
“I want to try to be less held back by wanting things to be perfect.” — Eepy Sleepy, on her plans for the coming weeks
The game itself began about 55 minutes in. Eepy Sleepy said it was not her first time through: she streamed it in 2021 and voiced Sayori in a collab of it years ago. She played the standard edition rather than the Plus version, did her own character voices (“I’m not good at voices,” she said) and said she did not expect to finish in one sitting. Chat decided whose poem she would write at each of the game’s three poem-writing scenes. A vote of YouTube and Twitch chat combined went to Natsuki by about three votes, and a second vote went to Natsuki again, with Sayori behind by two. Near the end she put a third question to viewers, asking whether she should walk home with Sayori or Natsuki; the count was close, and she told chat they would answer honestly.
She stopped just over three hours in, at the point where the club was planning a poetry performance for its school festival, saying her throat was scratchy and she did not want to strain it. She said she was proud of keeping it together through the stream. She said she would most likely finish the game the next day, with a 3D haunted house stream planned for Friday and a Five Nights game on Saturday.
