Oumua and Ren Stage a Mock Boy-Band Debut, Then Call It an April Fools’ Stream
Posing as the fourth and fifth members of a new group, the two traded profiles, argued over who was the older brother and floated plans for ASMR, singing and dance.
SQUARELIVE — Oumua of SquareLive and Ren spent an hour on Sunday presenting themselves as the surprise fourth and fifth members of a new boy group, complete with debut-style self-introductions, a nursery-rhyme demonstration and promises of singing and dancing. Near the end, they told viewers that everything in the stream had been an April Fools’ bit and asked them not to take it seriously.
Oumua, who called themself the big brother of the pair, went first. The profile gave a birthday of May 5 at 5 a.m., a height of 192 centimeters and a species of “Space Head,” and said the character was in a magical department store with no money, trying to work off a debt as a store bus driver. Oumua admitted to having no license, saying space creatures do not need one. Oumua then performed the “Elephant Song,” a children’s rhyme, as a special talent, and said pasta cooked soft and clumped in cream sauce and taro with salted egg yolk were favorites. Oumua also asked viewers to join in a “ga-ga-ga” chant and said anyone who claimed to like them had to show it as a committed fan. Oumua listed cleaning, staying home, horror games and half-hearted fans among the things they hate, and said they once reached the Apex Predator rank and wanted to return to shooters.
“192 centimeters, and those last two centimeters are my cowlick.” — Oumua, giving a height for the debut profile
Ren followed as the fifth member, with a birthday of September 8, a height of 130 centimeters, a species of satellite and a job as the store’s cleaner. Ren named a sweet smile as a special skill and said they liked shopping, sour plums and eating nothing but celery for one week at a time. Ren said they disliked video games, vegetables and tiramisu. Oumua offered to teach Ren to play Tarkov. The two also argued over who was the older brother, one pointing to a hat and the other to having feet. Both characters also joked about quietly “handling” customers who did not pay.
Asked about future plans, one of the participants said they wanted to try serious ASMR and singing, and said they were taking lessons from a vocal coach. The same participant said they would try dancing, with popping as their current best style, and talked of debuting as a singing-and-dancing idol. The pair then played the group’s promotional video for the other members, said a watch-along of the group’s other debut streams would follow that evening, and ended the stream with the April Fools’ disclaimer.
Chat filled with laughing emotes through the debut, and the stream drew 15 Super Chats. One viewer wrote that the opening hit like a bass cannon, another that Oumua had to finish laughing before opening their mouth, and and another that they had been looking forward to Oumua teaching Ren to play games.
