The Glitch Stars streamer went in knowing almost nothing and followed the story through a shipwreck, a time-traveling suitcase and a 1929 Chicago massacre.

Nova Aokami of Glitch Stars (20DREAMERS) played the mobile game Reverse: 1999 for the first time in a stream of just over two hours, and said at the close that she liked it enough to come back to it.

She opened with a long chat about Naruto, upcoming card games and her day at work while the game finished verifying its resources, then started playing about 20 minutes in. She said she knew almost nothing about it beyond hearing it was similar to another card-style game she had played, and that she tries to go into games on stream as blind as she can. She skipped the trailer for that reason.

“I actually quite like this game. I might stream it more in the future.” — Nova Aokami, closing the stream

The opening chapters put her in the role of a “timekeeper” in 1960s London, where a pirate named Regulus is sunk by a rival group and pursued by investigators from a research organization called the Foundation. She entered the name Nova for her character and remarked that it was the first mobile game she had played in which the lead is a girl by default. She called the card-driven combat “really cute,” and later praised the interface for having a look of its own.

The story then jumped to 1929, where a talking apple joined her party, children threw rocks at her suitcase, and a mission to rescue people from a gang attack in Chicago ended with a gunman killing himself rather than be captured. Nova reacted to the apple, the Foundation’s recruitment pitch and the scene of Regulus’s lost mother as they came, and fought through the battles in between. Later she collected a free six-star character and a daily login bonus, and said she was usually used to getting very little from gacha games at the start.

Chat supplied background on the game as she went, explaining the apple as one of the game’s “Awakened,” objects that gain consciousness through magic, and cheering when Regulus delivered a line from the game’s advertising that Nova had not seen. She ended the stream tired, thanked viewers and said she would see them next week.
