Saruei Fixes Her Screen-Lighting Glitch, Then Lets Chat Pick Her Game
The independent Twitch streamer traced the problem to two lights fighting each other before settling into a mecha game.
INDEPENDENT — Saruei, an independent streamer on Twitch, spent part of a Sunday broadcast tracking down a lighting fault in her streaming setup before moving on to a game chosen by her viewers.
The trouble was in a screen-lighting add-on attached to her on-screen character, which was not picking up her display capture. She toggled it on and off, then worked out that a directional light was overpowering the add-on’s light. Turning it off brought the capture back, but the glow kept coming out blue whatever color she chose. She removed the add-on, saved, reloaded the scene and imported it again, and the color stayed wrong until she switched off a second light and the glow came out a plain gray. “I just had to turn off directional lights,” she said, comparing the experience to having thousands of plug-ins in one program.
“One light was overdriving the other light and that’s why it wasn’t working.” — Saruei, after fixing her screen lighting
Earlier, she had opened the stream with music and a long chat about what to play. She said she wanted more electronic, aesthetic music, and weighed whether a long game could be finished before a new release she hoped to play on the 5th of November, and whether viewers would want to watch it at launch for fear of spoilers. Chat offered suggestions from Call of Duty to Ace Combat. She put the choice to chat, offering Armored Core or Schedule 1, and chat answered “Armored core!” She started installing it, joking with viewers about how many games she has actually finished.
Once in the game she worked through the controls, remapping buttons for shooting, lock-on, dodging and fast movement, and hunted for the multi-lock option. She checked that the game audio was loud enough and remarked that the scene looked much better with the ambient light working.
The broadcast closed on a run through arena fights that chat applauded as a first-try clear. She stopped there, pointed viewers to her Discord server for schedule updates and said she would be back on Wednesday.
