Unohana Nonochi Beats Lagiacrus With Minutes to Spare in Monster Hunter Tri
She had first driven the sea wyvern off in an underwater fight early in a stream that ran nearly eight hours.
VARIUM — Unohana Nonochi of Varium defeated Lagiacrus, the lightning-wielding sea wyvern of Monster Hunter Tri, on Sunday, finishing the quest with about five minutes left on its clock. The kill came nearly four hours into a Wii stream that ran close to eight.
She had met the monster once before in the same stream. That first quest asked her only to repel it, not to kill it, and she took a lance into the fight. Lagiacrus came ashore, then slipped back into the water, where she followed. Underwater it charged itself with electricity and smashed the rock she tried to hide behind to heal. About an hour in, she drove it off. She said the lance suited fighting Lagiacrus underwater.
“Lagiacrus was wrongly accused.” — Unohana Nonochi, near the end of the stream
The rematch was harder. Her weapon lost its edge quickly, so she kept stopping to sharpen it. She fainted twice and was nearly out of healing potions when the wounded monster dragged itself off to rest on land. She used a trap there and closed out the hunt.
The village did not settle afterward. The tremors that had been shaking Moga Village kept coming, and the village chief and others suggested Lagiacrus was not the cause. The Guild issued an evacuation notice, and her Felyne partner, the cat companion who fights beside the hunter, disappeared. “Lagiacrus was wrongly accused,” she said as the stream wound down.
She spent most of the rest of the stream on the fallout. In the new volcano area she took on a delivery quest, carrying two loads through hazards, and finished it on repeated tries a little over five hours in. Her partner then returned. She went on to collect materials to repair an ancient mask for diving. Shark skin took more than an hour, as she had guessed sharks appeared only alongside Lagiacrus, and she credited her partner with finally getting it. She delivered the mask just after the seven-hour mark. Her partner described the next foe, a giant monster of the deep sea, as about 100 times the size of Lagiacrus.
Nonochi said the next stream would be on Saturday or Sunday of next week and would probably be the last of the series. Before then she planned to upgrade her weapon and ready her gear for more large monsters.
