Laplus Darknesss and Iroha Play a Horror Demo Built From Iroha’s Own Fears
The unreleased demo asks players what scares them, then builds a game out of the answers, and the session ended with an in-game count of 48 screams.
HOLOLIVE — Laplus Darknesss of Hololive’s sixth generation, holoX, played an unreleased horror game demo with Iroha on Tuesday, in a stream that ran about 27 minutes. The game builds its levels from a fear survey, and Laplus said it was too scary to try alone.
The demo opens at a research facility and asks the player to fill out a questionnaire about what frightens them, with the answers shaping the rooms that follow. Laplus said they would build the game from Iroha’s fears rather than her own. The questions ranged from being handed a microphone for an unfamiliar karaoke song to footsteps running across the ceiling at night, a doll found turned the wrong way on its shelf and a ladder disappearing into the dark of a manhole. Iroha called several of them impossible; others, such as a pancake pocked with tiny holes or a packed train ride of 15 minutes, did not bother her. The game also measures the player’s normal speaking volume and records anything louder as a scream.
“I screamed 48 times!” — Laplus Darknesss and Iroha, after the experiment ended
The first stage was a balance beam high above the clouds, crawling with spiders, which Laplus found hard to control. Later rooms involved a mannequin room where the rules were unclear, a stretch of hunting for hidden film canisters to photograph with a camera, and a final run toward an exit door with something chasing them. When the experiment ended, the game reported that 48 screams had been recorded. Laplus said the full release should hold far more than the demo.
Chat joked about the odd direction of the fear survey and about how little Laplus reacted at one point, and cheered when the experiment wrapped up. Laplus said she wanted to keep playing and floated Iroha taking the controls next time. The game’s final screen presented Iroha’s fears as a results sheet before the two signed off.
