Hyakuto Kyoko and Sorashina Sopia Clear a Two-Player Puzzler, Then Name Their Duo
After about two hours in The Past Within, a poll of viewers settled on Hyakka Soken as the pair’s name and tag.
HOLOLIVE — Hyakuto Kyoko and Sorashina Sopia, both of Hololive’s Asobi Mawari-tai, cleared the two-player puzzle game The Past Within on Monday in about two hours, then used a viewer poll to settle on a name for the pair: Hyakka Soken.
In the game, each player runs a separate copy, one in the past and one in the future, and the two can only move forward by describing what they see to each other. Billing themselves as “the genius and the strongest,” Kyoko and Sopia split the roles at the start. Sopia, an astronaut-idol, took the future. Kyoko argued that any past is somebody’s future and took the past. Over the next two hours they relayed symbols, clock-hand positions, button orders and codes back and forth, and in the second chapter the roles swapped, with Sopia moving through the rooms. Kyoko later said the stretch where one partner had to search a room alone also went smoothly.
“If the past is 1975, then from 1800 that’s the future. So the past is the future too.” — Hyakuto Kyoko, choosing between past and future
The story turned darker as it went. A scientist father had left behind a device meant to bring himself back through his daughter, and the two assembled the pieces of his revival one step at a time, ending with him stepping out of a broken tank. A scare partway through drew a scream from Sopia. Kyoko said she turned her volume down at the sound, then caught a second scream after turning it back up.
The ending left both players unsettled: the daughter’s past and future selves were drawn into a lake and became flowers, while the father kept his body. They called the game great fun and still said they could not forgive him, handing down a mock sentence that Kyoko pushed to 100 years. Kyoko said she would like more puzzle games of this kind and asked viewers for suggestions.
With the game finished, they put two candidate names to a poll for viewers of both streams. Hyakka Soken beat the other candidate by 65 percent to 35 percent, and the winner also gives the pair a tag distinct from an existing name. They signed off with “Otsu Hyakka Soken” as a provisional farewell. Kyoko said she would be on stream with an English-language Peak collab the next morning, and she carried on into a separate Super Chat reading after the collab ended.
