Hololive Newcomers Mela and Sopia Answer Subaru and Ayame’s Open Call
Sorashina Sopia beat Oozora Subaru at Reversi, while Nakiri Ayame outscored Achichi Mela at the dice game Yacht.
HOLOLIVE — Two Hololive newcomers, Sorashina Sopia and Achichi Mela, joined Oozora Subaru and Nakiri Ayame on Wednesday for a *totsumachi*, a stream in which other talents are invited to drop in. The two hosts, billed as AyaSubaru, ran it on the Nintendo Switch game Asobi Taizen. Sopia beat Subaru at Reversi, and Ayame beat Mela at Yacht, a dice game.
Subaru opened by saying the stream was meant to find new faces, because Subaru’s own circle of contacts was no longer enough. Ayame posted the invitation, asking for one or two guests at a time because the game limits how many can play together. While no one had yet come in, the pair played five-in-a-row, boxing, air hockey, a tank game and a card game, then put up a banner reading “newcomers welcome” and “a homey workplace.” Chat answered with “newcomers welcome” as the wait went on.
“Doesn’t stressing a ‘homey workplace’ mean there’s something behind it?” — Sorashina Sopia, on the sign the hosts had put up
Sopia arrived first. She introduced herself as a newcomer and a virtual science idol, then asked the hosts whether the place was really not scary, adding that she wondered if stressing a homey workplace meant something lay behind it. Mela followed, speaking with a *nojya* verbal tic, and introduced herself as the member of the Asobi Mawaritai group in charge of good fortune. Both guests were asked to turn up their microphones while the hosts adjusted volume, and chat noted the newcomers’ voices were quieter at first.
Ayame and Mela played Yacht first. Ayame opened with a Yacht of sixes on the first roll, and Mela, who joked she had already conceded, kept pace with a full house and a run of strong scores before finishing behind. “Ayame was too strong,” Mela said afterward, and Subaru joked that Ayame soaks up other people’s luck. Subaru then faced Sopia at Reversi and asked her for tips mid-game, which she gave, advising play in the center when possible. Sopia took the corners and won decisively, and Subaru said afterward that the host had been beaten up despite eight years in Hololive. Ayame also played Sopia, and Subaru floated the idea of a Hololive Reversi tournament.
Another talent had wanted to join, but the game seats only four, and the hosts apologized and promised a gambling-game outing another time. They closed after about two hours, noticing only then that they had never played the stream’s title game, Daifugo, and said they would try it next time.
