Amakami Konomi Redraws Her Own Illustration With Advice From Some 1,300 Viewers’ Comments
Floppy ears, a café backdrop and a ketchup bottle were among the changes the MillionProduction streamer made to a maid-themed piece.
MILLIONPRODUCTION — Amakami Konomi, a MillionProduction VTuber, spent a 28-minute stream on Wednesday revising one of her own illustrations according to advice from viewers. She had put the picture up in a YouTube community post beforehand and asked for suggestions, and about 1,300 comments came in. She said she could not apply them all, so she worked through the ones that came up most often and the ones she agreed with herself.
The first round covered the most common requests: drooping ears, an upward glance and a redder nose. Konomi said the upward look came out wrong at first, and she reworked the eyes several times before the pose settled. She turned the wolf ears into floppy ones, joking that the result made her look like a dog, and added a tear and a few beads of sweat. She also put a blue tint in the neck shadow and, later, darkened the neck area.
“Wow, it really changed a lot.” — Amakami Konomi, after finishing the redraw
Later changes included redrawing a hand she said had bothered her since she first drew the piece, lowering the ahoge (the strand of hair that sticks up), and making the hair shorter and fluffier. Many viewers had asked for the picture to tell a story, so she added ribbons and other frills to the outfit, then a pink café-style background, a table and a ketchup bottle. At one point she drew in a beam from the character’s eyes after a viewer suggested it, and she laughed along with chat as it took shape.
Konomi ended with a before-and-after comparison and said the new version would catch the eye far more readily on social media. She said the original had never made clear whether the character was a maid or a maid-café worker, and that settling on a direction made the concept easier to read. She added that it was a pleasure to see how closely viewers look at illustrations, and encouraged others to ask for feedback on their own work.
Chat was busiest at the start and again at the end, when it filled with applause. One Super Chat arrived during the stream.
