Shao An Builds a Giant Pumpkin Carriage From Nothing in One Minecraft Session
The Halloween build for the Ironmouse SMP’s Pumpkin Town took about six hours and seven flight potions.
IZIGENIA — Shao An spent most of an eight-and-a-half-hour Minecraft stream on Wednesday building a giant pumpkin carriage for the Halloween build event on the Ironmouse SMP, a modded server, and finished the exterior from an empty plot in about six hours.
The evening started with a scare: the streamer’s PC froze moments after going live, and Shao An got back in before the stream’s disconnect protection ran out. A planned collab with Ironmouse was pushed back to another day, so the stream became one long Minecraft session. Shao An said they had played nearly 200 hours on the server since it launched on Oct. 5.
“The entirety of this build was created just today from the ground up, from nothing.” — Shao An, closing the stream
Looking over the other entries in Pumpkin Town, Shao An saw that nobody had built anything pumpkin-shaped, and chose a carriage. The wheels came first: deep slate, larger at the back and smaller at the front, with quartz-brick and calcite axles. A dark oak frame followed, then a body of smooth red sandstone and orange terracotta streaked with stripped acacia, with a curling warped-stem stalk on top. Shao An built freehand, without tutorials, and leaned on flight potions to place blocks from the air. Along the way came a running joke that a slab is the answer to every problem: “The answer to all of life’s problems is literally always slab.”
The front windows were framed in dark oak, and Shao An swapped the first frog-light panes for crystallized glowstone that can be seen through. Lanterns hang from posts at the front so they do not block the driver’s view. The interior, planned in a teal theme, was still unfinished; Shao An later moved in workbenches, a stove, a bed and a terminal. Fellow players dropped by to tour the carriage, and Shao An explained that it has no horses and unattached axles because it is magic.
Earlier in the session, Shao An accidentally killed Ari’s pet bear cub, which was hit by a falling-star effect from their armor, and made amends with a new cub named brunch and a ghost cow. Later the streamer went looking for cotton seeds for another player, planted a golden apple sapling and fed the cooking-themed mobs in pursuit of an in-game advancement. Shao An sent the raid to Gerard T-Rexford on YouTube and to Sai on Twitch. There was no stream Thursday; Shao An planned to return Friday to watch the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival with viewers.
