Hayama Marin Reaches a Chapter 6 Break in Final Fantasy Resonance After 7 Hours

The streamer carried the new game’s story from a rescue inside a character’s mind through a war 700 years in the past, and said the story felt about half over.

Hayama Marin played Final Fantasy Resonance for more than seven hours, moving the story from a rescue inside a party member’s mind, through a war fought 700 years earlier, to a natural stopping point in Chapter 6. She ended the night saying the story had moved a great deal and that, judging by the map, the game looked to be past its halfway mark.

The stream opened with a tremor that interrupted her first words. She checked that everyone was safe, then settled in, saying a stomach ache had her taking things slowly. She also described how the game had taken over her days: she said she had been playing it until she passed out, waking up to play it again, and that she was sleeping less and laughing for no reason. “Resonance makes me smile,” she said.

“Resonance makes me smile. I don’t know why, but thank you, always.” — Hayama Marin, early in the stream

Before the story began, she explained that she had spent the previous three hours raising three party members’ MP-halving ability, much of it at a spot that kept producing the plant monster Morbol instead of the cactus enemies she wanted. When viewers pointed out that she was standing slightly to the left of the right place, she corrected course and thanked them. Later, after a metal cactus gave a large experience payout, she said the three hours had not been wasted.

The story’s guest star was Gilgamesh, who challenged the party to a fight and then asked to be taken to bridges in search of his lost memories. A scripted battle with him refused to end while Hayama kept attacking; she worked out that the winged icon on the enemy marked a coming self-destruct, and that waiting was the answer. He left the party an item to use until they met again. She then wrote a new critical-hit setup that reached 100 percent and called the result “a perfect formula”, and she took on a series of optional fights, including the side quest in which four copies of a long-dead mage named Victoria appeared in Mishidia.

The main story took her into the mind of the missing Fina, where the party watched the war between Heth and Aldor 700 years ago and met the generals of the time. The rescue ended with two Finas traveling with the party. Afterward she played a date-style side quest titled “Her Last Holiday”, showing Fina around the kingdom of Gran Shelt, and had the party’s characters explain how their continent related to the world of the flashback.

Chat followed along throughout, and the stream drew six Super Chats. When the Gilgamesh fight ended with the scripted explosion, viewers wrote “It was an explosion ending!” and “Hayama was too strong lol.” She closed by saying she wanted to raise her characters, build a magic-focused team for a rematch with Sephiroth, and visit the Coliseum, and she announced the next stream for around 8 p.m. that night.
