Shimamura Charlotte Finishes the Roof on Her Minecraft Apartment, Giving It a House’s Look
The roof, built in an orange wood with a gentle slope, was the main job of a nearly three-hour build stream that also took in talk of supermarkets and tea.
774INC — Shimamura Charlotte put a roof on the apartment she has been building in Minecraft during a stream that began late Tuesday night in Japan, the latest stage of her plan to bring her worlds together. She had built the second floor in the previous session and said at the start that this time she would finally do the roof.
She built it from an orange wood she called rather flashy, and decided early that a gently rising slope would suit the building better than a steep peak. She also held to a personal rule of leaving the tree farm uncovered, so the roof does not extend over it. At one point she tried a more uneven, decorative design from a reference image, then dropped it. “Trying to be fancy tends to backfire,” she said, and she summed up the lesson as not doing unnecessary things.
“We got a real sense of a house all at once today.” — Shimamura Charlotte, after the roof was done
Midway through, she raised the roof by one more step so that white patches would stop appearing on the in-game map. She noted the map still looked patchy because the top was open. Near the end she updated it again, said the build now looked like a proper house, and took a commemorative screenshot with viewers.
What remains is the exterior walls, which still have gaps, followed by the interior. She said she wants to add doors and furniture, and to blur the view of the tree farm from inside rather than decorate elaborately. She expects it to take about two more streams and hopes to finish in the first half of next month. Roads are next, and she plans to hold off on new tree farms until the apartment is done.
Between stretches of building she talked with chat about convenience stores, shopping habits and drinks. She said she goes to the supermarket three or four times a week, and that setting up two tea pitchers had let her keep a steady supply of tea at home. She also wondered aloud whether a new 500-milliliter tumbler would fit her car’s cup holder.
At the close she said her pet Cerberus turns six on Nov. 6, a Friday, and invited viewers to eat cake with her that day. She said she would appear the following afternoon at 3 p.m. in a Halloween event on another channel, with a cooking contest set for 7 p.m.
