Short on Sleep, Machina X Flayon Draws a Halloween Self-Portrait Over Three Hours
The Hololive English talent skipped a planned baking stream and drew through a surprise stream the day after Halloween, finishing with a witch hat, a pumpkin and a ghost.
HOLOLIVE — Machina X Flayon of Hololive English’s HOLOSTARS -TEMPUS- Vanguard spent a little over three hours on a surprise Halloween stream, drawing a Halloween self-portrait while chat moved from costumes to school, jobs and anime. Viewers noted that it was already past the 31st, and Flayon was happy to celebrate anyway.
The stream opened on a sleepy note. Flayon said the lack of sleep and tiredness had led to dropping a planned baking stream in favor of waiting for a better mood. The holiday itself had been spent out in Tokyo, where Flayon saw costumes everywhere, a lot of Joker cosplayers and, around the Shibuya scramble crossing, crowds heavy enough that police were directing foot traffic. It was nice but very crowded, Flayon said. The best part was meeting friends not seen in person for four or five years.
“I think the best friends you have are ones when you see them again. It feels like you haven’t seen each other in literally 5 years, but it just feels like you saw them yesterday.” — Machina X Flayon, on meeting friends over Halloween
Flayon worked from the Halloween outfit of Sora in Kingdom Hearts 2 as a reference, building the picture up in stages and fretting over proportions along the way. Chat cheered the witch hat with ears poking out of it, and the drawing grew to include a pumpkin and a ghost. Near the end Flayon looked it over and said it was not bad at all, better than expected for a drawing of this kind.
Between strokes, the talk ranged widely: advice on college and careers for viewers who asked, favorite Persona characters, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure part 5 and Bleach. Flayon also showed off a pair of large glasses and said a prescription fitting was next on the list.
Flayon ended the stream saying it was time for a nap, with the next stream likely on the 3rd, Japan time, and a t-shirt stream already scheduled for the next day. Viewers were asked to draw their own Halloween pictures as homework. The stream drew 116 Super Chats and Stickers, and chat closed with a long run of goodbyes.
