After Abandoning Ocarina of Time, Nyamamugi Tart Plays Four Hours of the Remake

The Nyantasia! streamer, who quit the original over its puzzles, made it from the Deku Tree to Goron City and the Sacred Forest Meadow in one sitting.

Nyamamugi Tart, a virtual streamer with Nyantasia!, went back to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Friday with the newly released Nintendo Switch remake and played for about four hours. Tart said an earlier attempt at the original ended partway through, a little past the point where Link grows up, because the puzzles were too hard and Tart gave up on it. Tart opened the stream by promising not to walk away this time and set a goal of roughly four hours.

The first stretch covered Kokiri Forest and the Great Deku Tree. Tart picked up a sword and shield, worked through the dungeon with the help of the on-screen hints viewers were invited to give, and beat the boss Gohma. From there the story moved on to Hyrule Castle, where Tart found a back way past the guards, met Princess Zelda and Impa, and left with the princess’s letter and a new song. Tart ran into three game-over screens along the way, one inside the Deku Tree and two in Kakariko Village’s graveyard.

“I’m definitely not going to disappear this time. Believe me.” — Nyamamugi Tart, as the stream began

The remake’s voice input drew the most excitement. Tart switched it on in the menu and hummed into the controller to play the ocarina, using it to bring on the night at Kakariko Village. Chat called the feature remarkable. Tart repeatedly praised the redone visuals and the handling, and said at the close that the graphics were sharp enough to show the texture of Link’s skin and the grass.

With Zelda’s letter, Tart got past the guard at the foot of Death Mountain, then reached Goron City, where the leader Darunia asked for a tune with a feeling of green and nature. That sent Tart into the Lost Woods and on to the Sacred Forest Meadow, where Saria taught a song for talking with her from a distance. Tart stopped there, saying the day’s goal had been met and that the puzzles and action had gone better than expected. Chat agreed that Tart had improved.

Tart said the second part of the playthrough would come the next day, Saturday, from about 2 p.m. Japan time, and that a playlist for the series is up.
