Ichinose Uruha Plays Five Hours of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, From Raditz to Vegeta’s Retreat

The VSpo streamer picked up the story where the manga volume she had read left off, and sorted out the controller layout as she went.

Ichinose Uruha of VSpo played Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot for just under five hours on Sunday, taking the story from the arrival of Raditz to Goku’s fight with Vegeta, which ended with Vegeta pulling out. The stream ran 297 minutes.

She said at the start that the game continued from the point where the manga, which she had read through volume 17, left off. She held back on the opening song’s chorus, saying it gives away the story and she wanted to hear it once she had progressed further. The controller layout took longer to settle: the A, B, X and Y buttons did not match what she was used to, and she wrote down which was which and decided it was quicker to get used to them than to change them. She spent the early hours pressing the wrong button in fights.

“I’m a little scared. What if the comments blow up over this?” — Ichinose Uruha, as she switched to ranged ki shots against Vegeta

The story ran fast. Raditz revealed that Goku was a Saiyan and took Gohan; Goku and Piccolo teamed up to beat him, at the cost of Goku’s life. Gohan was then left to survive on his own and trained under Piccolo while Goku ran the Snake Way to King Kai. She played through a quiz with King Yemma and Gohan’s training, and remarked on how quickly events moved. When the Saibamen and then Nappa and Vegeta arrived, Yamcha, Tien and Piccolo fell in turn, and Goku returned for the fight with Vegeta.

Against Vegeta she used Kaio-ken and switched to ranged ki shots, chipping away from a distance. She said she was nervous about how chat would take it, and chat joked about the tactic. After the Genki Dama, Vegeta retreated, and the story turned toward Namek. The stream drew 18 Super Chats, and she read out thanks to the senders before signing off.

She ended by saying she would read the manga up to that point, and would continue the game the next day if her schedule allowed.
