Bao Cooks Beef Chuck Roast on Twitch, Then Incinerates the Garlic Under the Broiler

The independent streamer, who said she had never used a broiler before, laughed it off and spent the closing minutes planning a Wii Sports session.

Bao, an independent streamer on Twitch, set out to make beef chuck roast and cabbage soup in a Just Chatting stream and ended the night with a side of garlic reduced to ash. She said she had never used a broiler before, called the result her own fault and said she had been standing about a foot away when it burned. She joked about who to blame, then settled on laughing at herself. The garlic, she said, had been cremated.

The cooking began with a cabbage that took some wrestling. Chat offered coring tips and kept a nervous eye on her knife work until she announced, “Cabbage defeated.” She then heated a large pot, added olive oil and started the soup base of carrots, onion and celery, delighted to rediscover a kitchen tool that made the chopping easier. Later, searing the beef, she took a tip from chat to lower the heat and pulled meat out of the pot as hot oil spattered. She said it hurt, loosened the stuck bits with some water and moved on. A little later she said she had nicked herself on something.

“Rejection is just redirection.” — Bao, thanking her community

With the roast needing hours, Bao joked about going to bed and waking up to it, then decided to leave a “pot roast camera” running and to open V cards while she waited. She went on to chop sage, break up onion slices and set out apple cider to deglaze the pan. Earlier in the stream she had thanked her community for sticking with her through odd streaming hours and a month away, saying she had started looking forward to streaming again.

Before signing off, Bao said she was unsure what the week held, floated a stream on Friday or Saturday and said she wanted to play Wii Sports with someone for a few hours. She said she was working on a sourdough starter, hoping to bake desserts with her community next week after a run of savory dishes, and mentioned a second attempt at macarons.
