Rinkou Ashelia of Phase Connect finished the story of Final Fantasy Resonance on a stream that ran just over six hours, playing the game’s closing chapters in one sitting. When it was over she gave the game a nine out of 10.

She opened by telling viewers the plan was to stream until the game was done, and promised to try the optional Sephiroth boss at some point along the way. She said she had spent time off stream leveling and maxing out her characters, and that the next day brought FanFest, so the finish could not wait.

“I give Final Fantasy Resonance a nine out of 10. Standing ovation.” — Rinkou Ashelia, after finishing the game

Boss fights came one after another through the middle of the stream. She tried the Sephiroth fight after a run of them, found it immune to much of what she threw at it, said she would need to get stronger and went back to the story. She later won the fight against Umbra, then helped the guest fighter Gilgamesh visit bridge after bridge in search of his lost memories. Partway through she paused to feed her cat, Gigi, and the break turned into a long talk about pets in which she said viewers would meet Gigi on Sunday.

The final stretch was long. The party climbed the Crystal Tower to face the villain Soul, and she leaned on the Ultima spell through the last fights, joking that an Ultima a day keeps despair at bay. As the ending kept restarting, she said the game had been trying to end for about two hours. A late twist left her laughing, and by her own account she cried through the closing scenes. Viewers sent 14 Super Chats and Stickers over the stream.

Afterward she called the game a classic RPG story with tropey but interesting characters that did everything well without trying to be more than it should be. She said she wants to go back for Sephiroth, possibly the next day before FanFest, which she will stream on Twitch only, starting at 5 p.m. Pacific, ahead of the keynote. Finishing Final Fantasy X is next on her list, a game she said makes her nervous.
