Ginkai Mao Reaches Raccoon City Police Station in Second Resident Evil Requiem Stream

Playing the game for the first time, she also found she could move with a controller and aim with a mouse at the same time.

Ginkai Mao, a member of HACONECT’s fourth generation, streamed nearly seven hours of Resident Evil Requiem on Nov. 3, the second installment of her first-time playthrough. She took the game from the clinic where the last session ended to the Raccoon City Police Department.

She resumed in the clinic’s basement and carried a girl named Emily out to a helipad, where an injured man said he could fly them out if she brought back the boss’s key. Mao fetched it, and the helicopter took off with insect-like creatures clinging to it before going down soon after. She joked that Capcom helicopters never seem to get anywhere. Later, Emily collapsed despite Mao’s attempts to revive her, and the scene ended with Leon shooting her. Mao, who had pleaded with the game not to make her fire, said she had not pulled the trigger herself.

“I’m not really scared of ghosts or zombies. Bugs are what I can’t take.” — Ginkai Mao, during a fight with insect-like enemies

Ammunition and healing items ran short through much of the night. Mao handled Leon’s sniper sections with a keyboard and mouse, then found she could move with the controller in one hand and aim with the mouse in the other, a setup she called far easier. The low point came in a long fight with insect-like enemies that left Leon close to death. “I’m not really scared of ghosts or zombies,” she said. “Bugs are what I can’t take.” A supply box she found afterward let her sell items for credits and upgrade her guns and body armor, and a motorcycle chase through the city followed.

At the police department, which she knew from Resident Evil 2, she recalled puzzles from the older game as she explored. A scene there told Grace Ashcroft, the character she plays for much of the game, that she was a copy made to retrieve Elpis, a virus said to be the last creation of Spencer, the Umbrella founder. A playable flashback followed, in which Mao hid from bald children in a research facility. She said she had expected to play mostly as the young female lead and had not foreseen Leon taking so much of the story.

A three-letter code puzzle in the STARS office cost her time when a library card did not appear at first, which she put down to a bug. Solving it earned a charm for the Requiem revolver. She ended the stream at 6 hours 52 minutes by her count, saying she expected about two more sessions to finish the game, though she joked that she is bad at predicting final episodes. She said she would stream something else the next day.
