Kaheru’s First GTA Role-Play Night Sends Basu Off a Bus and Onto the Job Hunt
Playing a socially anxious Filipino newcomer on the DistrictV2 server, the independent streamer was injured twice, found a phone and ended the night still unemployed.
INDEPENDENT — Kaheru, an independent streamer, spent a three-hour first night on the GTA role-play server DistrictV2 as Basu, a nervous, gullible Filipino woman who has just moved to Los Santos. The streamer said it was her first time role-playing seriously and her first time playing GTA.
Before logging in, Kaheru asked viewers not to metagame, stream-snipe, give spoilers or backseat, and said she would stay in character and mostly not answer chat. She described Basu as unemployed and easily scammed, someone who treats a good outfit as armor and gets very loud when pressured.
“It’s my first day. Like, literally first day. And I’m immediately thrown off a bus and I’m bleeding out.” — Kaheru, as Basu, after being thrown off the bus
Basu’s night started in a nearly empty, rainy city with a driver’s license card stuck on screen, no phone and no contacts. After a stretch of wandering, she met a group of players outside a burger spot, among them a wolf-masked player who went by First and several other Filipinos. First talked her into boarding a bus without a seat belt, and Basu was thrown off it and left bleeding in the road just as the server went down for a restart, which was framed in-game as a tsunami. Back online, she found First again, broke her leg trying a skateboard trick and was treated by a medic who also helped her bring up the phone she had been missing.
With the phone working, Basu spent the rest of the evening looking for work. She checked a cat cafe, the supermarket and the taxi and road works listings, and posted on the in-game social app Birdie: “Please contact me. Need job ASAP.” The server closed early, and Kaheru wrapped up by listing what Basu had gained on day one: an injury, a trip to the hospital and a phone, but no job, car or friends’ numbers.
Kaheru said she hopes to explore more and meet more people on day two and to start earlier, though she was not sure she would stream every day. She also said she wants to make Basu’s voice more approachable and keep it consistent. Chat joked about the rough start and cheered when Basu kept running into fellow Filipinos.
