Yu Q. Wilson Streams Nine Hours of District V2 Opening Day as the Server Strains

Five months of planning went into the GTA roleplay event, and a flood of simultaneous logins forced repeated restarts and a server upgrade.

Yu Q. Wilson spent the opening day of District V2, the GTA roleplay server he helped organize, streaming for more than nine hours while the server buckled under the number of people trying to connect. Staff told him that over a hundred people had tried to log in at the same moment and broken it, and the server went down and restarted several times through the day. During one restart he was shut out of his own server.

Wilson told viewers that planning the event took five months of preparation, negotiations and communication, and called it “easily the most stressful thing I’ve done” in Nijisanji. He said he planned to play every day of the run except one, on the third day, when he has work to do.

“Day one is people figuring out how things work and what breaks what.” — Yu Q. Wilson, on the server’s first day

In character as Willerton, he started with an empty apartment and no car, rented vehicles that were stolen, and took up mining. While washing stones at a river he was mauled by a mountain lion, an animal he said he had not known the server contained, and he waited for paramedics to find him. Hours later he cut his mined gems into necklaces, sold them for $37,000, and got a weapons license from the police by saying it was to defend himself against mountain lions. He said he was the first person he knew to buy a gun. He also ran ingredients to a cat cafe that had run short of supplies.

Chat answered the lion attack with laughter, and there were eight Super Chats. As the broadcast wound down, Wilson apologized for the crashes and said the server needed an upgrade, since far more people had turned out than expected. He also said phone calls were far too loud, that supermarkets needed more staff and that gas station food should restore more hunger and thirst at a higher price. He signed off without his usual outro and said the next day would be much better.
