Hakui Koyori and Server Mates Fell an ARK Boss After a Pirate Battle and a Train Ride
The Hololive server event also saw the group build a prize galleon and a finish with beer and curry before the server closes Sunday at 11 p.m.
HOLOLIVE — Hakui Koyori of Hololive’s holoX unit joined a Hololive server event in ARK on Saturday night and streamed it for more than six and a half hours. The evening ran through three set pieces: a pirate-ship battle, a ride on a railway the players had built, and a boss fight that ended in a win for the group.
Koyori came to the stream straight from a long in-person fan event in Amagasaki. After an update, her controls and cosmetic mods had reset, and she re-bound her keys and updated the mods before joining the others. The pirate battle then began: each player built the smallest ship, left their tribe (ARK’s term for a player group) and cut any alliances. A destroyed ship explodes, its owner respawns at a bed placed at the shipyard, and the last ship afloat wins the largest galleon. Koyori said she was poor at aim-based games, and her cannon shots mostly missed. She counted two sinkings of her own, then ended the battle at 1 percent hull after a larger ship firing at random caught her. A ship called Gesumaru won by ramming.
“I got to do a few things I’d never done before, and it was fun.” — Hakui Koyori, signing off
The group then built the prize galleon, a Christmas-colored vessel with several decks, a captain’s door and a room below the waterline, and toured it in the rain. After that they boarded the railway for a test run of about 15 minutes. The train ran out of fuel on a slope before it was restocked, and the ride went on through dusk and into a starlit night back to the base.
The next several hours went to preparing for the boss. Koyori ferried iron, wood, fiber and hides to craft saddles for a team of crocodile mounts, sorted cold-weather armor and brought along Kerberax, the three-headed creature she had tamed the day before, which carries up to four riders and fights harder with more of them aboard. The group traveled to the boss arena through an obelisk and waited three minutes before the fight. Koyori rode Kerberax while others commanded the crocodiles, and the boss went down about 13 minutes after the group moved in. None of the crocodile mounts were lost. The win yielded a boss trophy and Elements, and it unlocked Tek engrams and the taming of Umbra, a creature from the game.
The party toasted with emotes over cold beer and curry, then toured a photo gallery that players had built on the server. Koyori left Kerberax sleeping there as she wrapped up. The server closes on Sunday at 11 p.m., and she said it had been a tight schedule but that she was glad to have played alongside her tribemates.
