Yu Q. Wilson Adds an Hour a Day to DistrictV2 as Character Is Robbed at Knifepoint
The streamer, who owns the Grand Theft Auto roleplay server, said the extra hour makes up for crashes during its first three days.
NIJISANJI — Yu Q. Wilson opened day three of DistrictV2, the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) roleplay server Yu owns, by announcing that the server will run an hour longer every day to make up for the crashes of the first three days. From now on it is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. JST, up from a 6 p.m. close. Yu also warned that the stream would be short, about four hours.
The server went offline within the first quarter-hour and came back after a wait, and lag spikes returned later in the day. Yu said a fix and a stress test with many players had been run the night before, and that Yu’s own game had not crashed once the previous day. By the end of the stream, Yu said AC, the server’s staff member, had traced much of the lag to the scripts that run the police, EMS and DOJ jobs. Those will be swapped for new ones, and players in those whitelisted jobs will be allowed to hold training sessions outside server hours. “I would trade a 10-hour long RP session where there’s a lot of crashes for a 3-hour long one where everything is smooth,” Yu said.
“Sometimes it’s okay to lose, man. It makes coming back much more satisfying and fun.” — Yu Q. Wilson, on being robbed in character
In the game, Yu played Willerton, who began the day stranded in a tunnel with no cars or locals, the server’s non-player characters, in sight, and jogged to the city. After selling skeleton keys, or lockpicks, for 5K through in-game messages, Willerton was robbed at knifepoint behind a cafe by a character named Daisy Jones, who took his gun and a lockpick. Willerton complied, saying he does not pull a gun when a knife is already at close range. Yu said out of character that the robbery gave the character a reason and an arc.
Willerton filed a report with the police, who told him the unregistered gun would not be returned to him even if it were recovered. He then drew up a plan with two friends’ characters to ambush Daisy Jones after he earned about 20K from mining to buy a new gun. Later, officers questioned him about a plane that crashed into a tree near where he was washing stones.
Partway through, Yu read the server’s rules on robberies, hostages and looting aloud. Yu said the rules have been updated and that Yu did not write them but is open to changing any that players find unreasonable. Chat filled with thank-yous at the close, and eight Super Chats came in. Yu signed off saying a return would come either later that day or the next day.
